SLED Safeguard SC: Firearms Instructor Certification (40 Hours)

This 40-hour course prepares certified security officers to train and qualify other security personnel in firearms handling and SLED regulations. Participants must have successfully completed SLED Safeguard SC: Classroom Instructor Training (40 Hours) and be currently registered with SLED as a security officer through a licensed security company.

To successfully complete the course, participants must:

Deliver a 20-minute presentation on a security-related topic of their choice.
Earn a minimum score of 80% on the written exam, oral presentation, and firearms qualification.

Required Materials
Participants must bring:

Notebook and black pen(s)
Laptop and charger (or device capable of running PowerPoint and Word)
Valid SLED Registered Security Officer ID card
Driver's license or state-issued ID
Unloaded, cased firearm for qualification (no ammunition in magazines upon arrival)
Three magazines and pouches for two spare magazines
Minimum 500 rounds of ammunition (1,000 recommended); no steel-case or steel-core ammunition
Quality leather belt or duty belt
Firearm-specific OWB holster worn at belt level (no drop or tactical holsters)

An $18 range fee is payable at the designated range. Students are responsible for purchasing ammunition and providing or renting ear and eye protection.

Students who do not bring the required identification or equipment may not be permitted to participate.

Registration
Registration is required and must be completed online or by calling 843-574-6152. Walk-in registrations are not permitted.
To request a refund or a one-time reschedule, contact Continuing Education at ce.reg@tridenttech.edu or 843-574-6152. Requests must be received before 5:00 p.m. on the Wednesday prior to the class start date. No registrations, refunds, or transfers will be processed after that deadline. No exceptions.
