Want a healthcare career but not necessarily with direct patient care? The Sterile Processing Technician program is designed for individuals interested in processing surgical instrumentation. Work alongside health care professionals with supervision in a surgical instrumentation central processing department for hospitals and surgery centers. Process, disinfect and sterilize medical equipment, learn infection control, supply ordering, and equipment management and inventory.
This program is all online due to the pandemic. The program consists of live virtual class meetings two evenings per week,
Tues/Thur, 4 pm - 8 pm, for 12 weeks. Online login information is provided upon enrollment. Computer access is required and you must have a webcam and microphone.
This program prepares students for two national certifications; CSPDT, Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician from CBSPD, the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, and the CRCST, Certified Registered Central Service Technician from IAHCSMM. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of the central sterile processing technician is expected to grow 14 percent nationally, much faster than the average, through 2024. Employment opportunities for central sterile processing technicians are expected to be excellent due to increased needs within the health care industry and a larger and older population.
