This course is designed to expand the skills set of a CNA with advanced knowledge necessary for transition into a hospital setting. The course consists of introduction to hospital equipment and supplies, as well as advanced skills in the following areas: 12 lead EKG, basic phlebotomy, performing urinary catheterization, infection control, glucometer use, sterile technique, specimen collection and handling, measuring output of bodily fluids including chest tubes and surgical site drains, tracheotomy and supplemental oxygen care, and BLS certification and training. To receive certification completion and BLS card students must receive a passing grade on the PCT final and demonstrate completion in patient care procedures using equipment and supplies correctly. Strict attendance is required and first day of orientation is mandatory.
