This 650-hour certificate program meets the requirements for licensure as a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) in South Carolina. Upon successful completion of this program, candidates are eligible to take the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx), a national certification examination administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards, and to apply for South Carolina licensure upon passing the MBLEx.
Students learn a range of massage techniques, including basic spa and neuromuscular clinical massage. The curriculum encompasses 650 hours of instruction in the following subjects: Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology, Massage Theory and Practice, Business, Ethics, Laws, and Student Clinic.
Prerequisites: For program admission, proof of a high school diploma or GED, and 18 years of age or older. A background check is not required for entry into the Massage Therapy program. However, all applicants applying for a massage therapy license with the SC Board of Massage Therapy will be subject to a state and national fingerprint criminal background check. We strongly recommend that you check https://llr.sc.gov/mas/ to confirm your eligibility for licensing prior to program completion.
