Students will learn microbiology, medical terminology, bacterial growth and contaminants, and the chemicals used to destroy organisms on surgical instruments. This program is fast-paced and concentrated, and requires a great deal of reading, memorization, and understanding. Learn to decontaminate, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments. Technicians are exposed to blood, bacteria, viruses, and body tissues while cleaning and sterilizing contaminated instruments from all areas of the hospital.
- As a sterile process technician, you work alongside healthcare professionals with supervision in a central sterile processing department in hospitals.
- This program teaches towards the national certification from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association.
- The program meets 2 evenings per week on-campus, followed by a 2-week, or 80 hour, clinical externship in a hospital central sterile department. The clinical externship is held Monday thru Friday at varying hours.
- This program is fast-paced and concentrated, and requires a great deal of reading, memorization, and understanding.
- Students must attend the mandatory Orientation on the start date, or they cannot proceed in the course. Failure to attend the orientation will forfeit the Scholarship. This program has a strict attendance policy.

Student costs:
- Vaccinations needed; copies of all required documents after submitting Scholarship application.
- Scrub top and bottom any color, white athletic shoes & socks.
Prerequisite requirements:
- Students must be high school or GED graduates.
- Students must submit vaccine requirements within 1 week of applying for the Scholarship, in order to qualify.
- a 2-step PPD skin test within 12 months. (2 skin tests & 2 readings 1 week apart).
- a Tetanus vaccination within 10 years.
- Proof of MMR childhood vaccines, or a titer.
- Flu vaccination within 12 months.
- Proof of major medical insurance.

- The Scholarship includes tuition, books, background, and drug screening. Book vouchers will be accessible to students one week before the start date.
- Failure to complete any program, or student no-shows, funded by the Scholarship eliminates any future Scholarships.
