ID : 18065
« back to classes page
This comprehensive 8-hour Defensive Driving course teaches you techniques on how to avoid high-risk driving behaviors, respond to immediate dangers, anticipate potential hazards and learn the benefits of being a safe and responsible driver. Successful completion of this course will reduce up to (4) points off your driver's license or CDL license. A reduction in points may only be made one time in a three-year period. Depending on your insurance carrier, a discounted insurance rate also may be available. Any person who drives a motor vehicle when his or her license is cancelled, suspended or revoked is in violation of South Carolina Statute 56-1-460 and is subject to arrest, including driving to and from TTC campuses. Also, this is not a course for ADSAP substance violations. Book is included.

This course is certified by the National Safety Council (NSC) and is accepted by the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) for point reduction.

Class Requirements:
Before enrolling in this course, you must verify that you have points on your driving record by going to www.scdmvonline.com. If there are pending circumstances, you can opt-out of requesting point reduction until the points have posted. In class, each student receives an information sheet that asks you to choose either "Point Reduction or Not for Points”. “Not for Points” is for those who have pending points or are taking the course for other purposes. TTC will not contact the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) on the student’s behalf. It is up to the student to contact the National Safety Council (NSC) once the points have posted. The NSC will then send the information to the SCDMV. It can take up to 4 weeks for the SCDMV to process the points and update their website. For more information, call the National Safety Council (NSC) at 1-800-733-6185.

You must register online. No walk-ins permitted. You may reschedule or request a refund one time by email at ce.reg@tridenttech.edu or call 843-574-6152. All requests must be given 48 hours prior to your class start date. No refunds or transfers are granted after 5:00 p.m., Wednesday. No exceptions.

Classes start promptly at 8:30 a.m. Please be on time. Tardiness is not permitted. No exceptions are granted to this rule. If you miss any portion of the class, you do not receive credit for the course and no refund or transfer is given. If you choose to take the class again, you are required to register and pay the full registration fee again.

The instructor may dismiss a student from class for sleeping, excessive cellphone use or showing lack of interest. To maintain the integrity of the course, all attendees must complete the full 8-hours of course content in order to receive a certificate of completion at the end of class.

Important Information:
South Carolina drivers seeking to reduce their points and avoid suspension by attending a defensive driving course must complete the course before the suspension begins. They will have 30 days from the date of the suspension notice until the date the suspension begins. Once the suspension begins, the point reduction will not cancel the suspension. Individuals taking the DDC-8 class for another state will be responsible for submitting any and all paperwork to that state. Neither the SCDMV nor the NSC office will handle any information pertaining to a defensive driving course being completed for another state other than South Carolina. All questions regarding driver’s license status or violation information should be referred to Driver Service at (803) 896-5000.
