Students will learn microbiology, medical terminology, bacterial and viral growth and contamination, and the chemicals used to destroy organisms on surgical instruments, by way of decontamination, disinfectants, and sterilization processes.
Technicians are exposed to blood, bacteria, viruses, and body tissues while cleaning and sterilizing contaminated instruments from all areas of the hospital in the central sterile department. This program is fast-paced and intensive, requiring a great deal of reading, memorization, and comprehension.
  • This program runs only once per year due to the low number of jobs in the area and low turnover.
